Is this a gift exchange?
No. However, you are welcome to gift your work to someone if you like — for example, if you mention the fandom in your sign-up or fandom promo and someone says "Oh man I would I love to see someone write for this!". That's between you and the recipient and I will be not be doing any kind of moderating regarding the gift.
What is the sign-up for if this is not a gift exchange?
Informal only: an indication of interest and something for you to express your commitment to this, if that's something you find helpful. It is not required to post to the collection!
