flashbackfest | 2024 Sign-Ups

I've been part of fandoms since I was young, from Quizilla to FFN, and I started out with an interest in cartoons/animated media which remains that way to this day! Some of my early fandoms are: Disney, PJATO, V:LD, Gravity Falls, Zootopia, MLP: FiM, BatJokes, Redwall, and Undertale. To Name A Few, hehe. Details under the cut if you want to read my gushing. <3

Disney, primarily The Lion King (Scar <3), Hercules (Hades <3), and literally any main villain.

The Percy Jackson series, and by extension Greek Mythology as a whole. I'm a sucker for Hades.

Voltron: Legendary Defender, with Hunk and Lance being my favorites. I can't remember if I stopped watching because of "ship wars" or if that happens to be most of what I remember from the end of it haha, never finished the show.

Gravity Falls, which was the first time that I actually used a Tumblr account to engage with other members of the fandom— though, I didn't watch GF until 2018! It was my first time fixating on a less-than-popular ship as well: Stancest, which is a comfort and a favorite to this day. My first published works on AO3 are from this pairing!

Zootopia, the start of teenage me openly embracing "furry" subculture, even though I'd always had an interest in animal characters, especially animated ones.

MLP: FiM, Discord was my favorite, and I had a hoard of pony plushes. I still like to reblog fan art and enjoy the aesthetics to this day!

Batman/DC... BatJokes. 'Nuff said. XD They influenced the way I ship things, and many of my favorite tropes/kinks/etc.

Redwall, an earlier start to the "furry" stuff actually, but I really harbor an intense love for animals and animal-based characters to this day. I mean, hey, TLK was a fave forever! Brian Jacques's stories have a special place in my heart.

Undertale, I have a lot of drawerfic and RP concepts from this era, and while I'm unsure if I'll ever write or roleplay this fandom again, I love the nostalgia it elicits!

It would be fun to find some people with similar early fandoms, I can't wait to see more sign-ups!

Ahhh Quizilla! I so rarely meet people in the wild who knew of or were active on Quizilla, so it always feels special ^-^ It was my introduction to fic! \o/ I was getting into anime and also really liked taking personality quizzes and it was a short hop from "taking a quiz themed around an anime I like" to "hey this is a story? about the anime I like???" And the rest is history xD

Anyway, just wanted to wave, because it's nice to see someone mention it!

Waves back!! I miss Quizilla so much, I'd spend so much time making quizzes and reading those quizzes that become mini fics... kinda like CYOA fics, but interactive. Always with Percy Jackson or whatever anime boy I loved that week lololol. There really is nothing like it today. XD :D 💕

I might as well chime in:

The reason I joined AO3 was to post all my Betrayal at Krondor fanfic (because it was forbidden on FFN at the time) and then I basically never did. I'm in the "oodles of embarrassing old writing drawerfic" category here. But I WILL post something for it even if it's a single drabble! Mark my words!!! I had the idea for this fest to kick myself into it but I'll be glad for the company :D

and yess the MCU was such a big part of my formative years. i loved captain america sm, i was a big stony shipper back in the day lmaoo,,, still have a soft spot for it. i also really loved x-men, i watched days of future past over and over :P these days my fav is still probably x-men, it’s just so good and i LOVE magneto :D also spider-man, i got back into the tobey movies a while ago. i still love the avengers but it ain’t the same without iron man and cap :( marvel will always be such a big source of nostalgia and joy for me tho

I feel that!! Man, I remember when the MCU just started out and the biggest deal with the original Avengers movie. It's probably one of the first time I actually started to look at Tumblr and AO3 for fan content. I don't keep up with MCU nowadays (except Moon Knight... highly recommend btw), but I agree. So nostalgic and comfy to think about. <3

As for fandoms, I would have to think about it.

I am signing up. I love this idea. I loved writing for the show Passions (reading other people's stories is how I discovered what fanfic was), but I fell out with it when I discovered other fandoms and then I got pretty disenchanted with one of the actors on it so that colored how I felt about the show. BUT I want to rediscover my love for the show again because there was so much magic in the way it used to make me feel. I would laugh so much watching it (it was a 'drama' but it was more comedy than anything TBH), engage in mostly friendly debate about it, & just have a great time. I need those positive feelings back in my life at this time. TY for this fest!

I saw this event advertised over on

fandomcalendar and was very excited! I love looking back at past fandoms and it would be great to have an incentive to make new fanworks for them.

Specifically, I've been feeling especially nostalgic about Yu Yu Hakusho (while archiving some old fics and thinking about rewriting or continuing them) and Katekyo Hitman Reborn! (which I never actually published anything for when I was into the fandom), so I would like to create for one or both of those fandoms!

Saw this event on fandomcalendar, and every year I feel like I get into childhood nostalgia...!

Right now I'm really into He-Man! Specifically re-watching the 2002 cartoon right now, but any canon is fine with me :D I really love Skeletor and think he's super cute. Some ships that would be fun: - He-Man x Skeletor (kinda spongebob x squidward) - Evil-Lyn x Skeletor (femdom!) - Tri-clops x Skeletor (his most competent brown noser that still kinda hates him?!) - Beastman x Skeletor (Beastman always seems to pick up Skeletor at the end) - ?!?! anyone else? town bicycle Skeletor!

With Deadpool/Wolverine as the newest Marvel movie, I haven't watched it yet but I do really love Wolverine from any canon, especially the 90's cartoon and Hugh Jackman's Wolvie :3c - Deadpool x Wolverine would be great once I actually watch the movie LOL - Sabertooth x Wolverine - Omega Red x Wolvie?!?! Really any villain x Wolvie would be fun. - Jubilee x Wolverine (one-sided, Wolvie does not requite) - X23 x Wolverine(one-sided, Wolvie does not requite) - Rogue x Wolverine (one-sided, Rogue from the xmen evolution cartoon, Wolvie does not requite)

I also love the 90's Batman cartoons. Including Batman Beyond! - Terry Mcginnis x Old Man Bruce Wayne is classic - Harley Quinn x Bruce Wayne - I want to do something with Jeffrey Combs's Scarecrow but can't think right now...

And the 90's Spider-Man cartoon is great too. As well as Spider-Man 2002: - Anyone x Green Goblin - Anyone x Norman Osborn - Something with Venom and Eddie Brock?!

Yu-Gi-Oh S0 and Duel Monsters always have a grip on my heart: - little Yugi x Yami/Atem! - Marik x Rishid! - Marik x Bakura is really throwin' it back to YGO abridged...

Okay, at this point I might as well sign myself up :'D

As I already described (at far-too-great length in this comment), I am almost certainly going to be writing some Fruits Basket fanfic over the next 6 months whether I joined this challenge or not, particularly of the Yuki/Kakeru or maybe just Yuki Sohma gen variety!

Some other fandoms I might try writing for in the spirit of the challenge:

Avatar: The Last Airbender, Zuko/Aang. This one's sorta lower priority in that I have in fact already a Zuko/Aang fic posted up on my Ao3 (right here, if you're interested!), but it's still a very old ship that I used to adore - one of the first ships I ever wrote for! I've already been revisiting it this year due to the Netflix adaptation, and I really wanted to participate in Zukaang week earlier this year, but it just didn't work out. OH, and I just remembered: I really really loved Roku/Sozin as well, but I never ended up writing any at all! It's a shame that one of the most prolific authors ended up deleting their LJ, but there's still some great stuff out there!

Final Fantasy X-2, Gippal/Baralai. Gods I love this ship, and every few years or so I find myself looking it up again and remembering anew just how much! <3 I've also been revisiting this world a touch this year as I finally bought the remasters on Switch, and it's just one of that rarepairs that always makes me so happy and satisfied even despite its small amount of comment. I have a couple of fics of it up on my LJ-era archive but nothing else!

Ace Attorney, a looot of potential ships but Phoenix/Edgeworth being the most nostalgic. This has gotta be my longest-running sustaining fandom ever: no matter how much time has passed, I've always kept up with the new releases, which is certainly not the norm for me, haha!;; And yet, amazingly, even though I've shipped it since the original trilogy, I have never completed a full Phoenix/Edgeworth fic. It's kinda wild!! I came up with a full Christmas fic plan a few years back, and then half-wrote a PWP a year or two after that, but somehow it never comes together. Someday I'd like to change that! <3 (Also, I'm still playing through The Great Ace Attorney with all its great number of ship options in its own right, if that counts!)

House, House/Wilson. So this ol' show has had a bit of a renaissance on tumblr recently, and it's kinda incredible? I've been doing some archiving of my old fanworks/rec lists lately which has brought up a Lot of House/Wilson hahaha (god I read. so MUCH of that back in the day apparently, lmao) and it really is still such a fun, toxic, hilarious little ship <3 I wrote some really short stuff for it back in the day but definitely nothing on my current ao3, and maybe I should!

Star Trek, Kirk/Spock. This was a huuuge fandom for me after the reboot movie, right around the hinge point of 'old' versus 'modern' fandom for me (I got a tumblr for the sake of Star Trek stuff, but still wasn't using Ao3 much yet), and I've been dipping my toes back into the fandom due to me finally getting back into TNG. I read a Kirk/Spock a couple weeks ago and it really did remind me all over again how much I love those Space Husbands <3 I most definitely have Kirk/Spock on my ao3 haha; they were the first ship I ever posted there! But it's been a lonnnng time...

Harry Potter. The original, the one, the only, the childhood fandom to end all childhood fandoms. I... was really hesitant about getting more into it for a while, due to all the. uh. discourse. on tumblr. But unfortunately my actual beliefs still are that consuming the fanfic really isn't hurting anyone... and so over the last year or so I've been trying to not punish myself for that, hah. Remus/Sirius is the OG ship, though I've find it bizarrely different to read lately due to some very unanticipated fandom trends?! (a lot of 'fanfic of a fanfic' style characterisation shifts to the point of... unrecognisability, in many cases, hahah.) But I've also been delving a little into Percy/Oliver, which I was interested in back in the day but never found much for, and I've been really enjoying it! So I wouldn't mind writing something for it myself~

Pokemon Black and White, N/Black. Ahhhhhh another very very big old ship that gives me the warm fuzzies <333 Again, I wrote it a long time ago (over ten years ago, apparently!!), but there's so much more I could do with these two and I've be overjoyed to revisit them!

Metal Gear Solid, Snake/Otacon. This is a funny one because I read it a fair bit back in the day without actually ever playing the games?! I did end up playing them a couple years back, but it's still a fandom I find very intimidating to actually write in... The ship's also had a bit of a resurgence lately, so I really should read some and get back into the zone for it!

Axis Powers Hetalia, America/Lithuania. Oh woooooow I almost didn't think of this one until someone mentioned Hetalia below!! But GODS I love these two; my fandom archive was inspired in part by my picking up my old phone for a while and off-handedly re-reading an old US/Liet fic I remembered loving, and immediately falling back in love with these two for real. :') <3 I really don't know if I ever wrote them actually; I think Hetalia fell smack-bang into the middle of my writing slump when I just wasn't doing much of anything?! But I really should... They deserve so much <33

Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha, Fate/Nanoha. My OG yuri ship and one I still care so so deeply for whenever I remember them hahaha <33 I did write one PWP with them back in the day, but I'd love to get back into them! I remember reading soooo many doujins, but never found much fic I liked... Maybe I should see if I can find some!!

And I think that's about it! Like I said, I'll prooobably end up writing Fruits Basket... but I got a lotta options. :'DDD

I was originally a Spander writer and that has fallen to the wayside a little - I write Teen Wolf now! However, I do have some ideas that would fit into Buffy/Angel and this would be a good push!

I also wrote in the Twilight fandom and with the anniversary, it might be fun to make something up - whether it be art or a fic!

This is such an exciting challenge! There are a few fandoms I never wrote for but were close to my heart growing up, so these are which I'm considering creating for:

· Stitchers
· Teen Wolf
· Scream movies

oh, this would be a great reason to clean up some drawerfic from the early 2000s and my misspent youth! I have a fair bit of Saiyuki fic that never made it to AO3, a couple of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead ficlets, one for Azumanga Daioh, one for Johnny the Homicidal Maniac...

It's going to be a 1980s cartoon and I am definitely trying to pull something out of a drawer and finish it - other than that I am not sure!

Signing up! At the very least, I'm going back to revisit an idea that picks up on what happens at the end of the last episode of Space: Above and Beyond, one of my first fandoms that I was deeply into in the mid 90s. Any notes I had on are are very likely on a ZIP disk and I no longer have a ZIP Drive. Time marches on.

There might be something else but that's the one I'm starting with.

Finally signing up! I love this whole idea. I'm planning on writing for Emergency!, which was one of the very first shows baby (literally) me was really into. I've actually written for it before, but this gives me a good reason to finish up a story that's been lingering on my drive for years!

Haha oh man this is perfect timing, as I've been feeling nostalgic lately.

I started my fandom journey when I was six years old, twenty years ago!!! Found a manga in a library, no escape from it sine then. I am an artist and my oldest fandoms tended to consist of shoujo and shounen manga.

I'm interested in participating in the Keroro Gunsou fandom. Very first series I ever had an active community I was involved. Those silly little frog aliens just got to me!

I have quite a few really old fandoms I never did anything for and I was thinking of a few I kind of fell out of.
